This is a fundamental investigation to establish a viewpoint in the interval with the architectural planning studies and the environmental engineering studies． The purpose of this investigation is to demand the dwelling and thermal environmental characteristic of the old house “MACHIYA” in Miyajima-town. We investigated it with various courses, and got a result about the next contents. （１）We grasped the environmental characteristic of the old house “MACHIYA” (Inaba’s house). （２） We measured warm temperature environment, and clarified a difference of the temperature according to the space in the old house “MACHIYA” (Inaba’s house)． （３） The one of the characteristics of the old house “MACHIYA” (Inaba’s house) is a thing with the dirt floor space that is long in the depths. It became clear that the dirt floor space controlled a rise of the temperature of the dirt floor space by lowness of the surface temperature of the dirt floor． （４） When wind via the sky was strong, by what was drawn into the wind， a current of air rose from a courtyard（TUBONIWA）. |
