In this paper，we describe an experimental study of the characteristics of a special synchronous motor which is operated by the thyrister inverter source. The starting winding and damper winding of this motor are the cylindical solid iron which fix on the surface of the magnetic poles. Starting torque and damping torque is produced by the interaction of the revolving magnetic field and eddy.current in the cylindical solid iron. We comfirm experimentally that the characteristics of this motor is greater than the characteristics of synchronous motor with squirrel cage for starting and damping duty，when they are operated by the thyrister inverter source. |
