In this paper, we consider the space area generated by an environment element, “the water”, with respect to the old Sizutani School constructed 300 years ago in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture. Among many remains of the School, you can find drain facilities (stone fences, stone walls, waterways, underground drain) for disposing rainwater. When the rainwater start flowing, they create the repetition of stillness and movement of the water flow. That is the moment the structural area changes to a phenomenal area, which shows that this place is still alive as an inspiring space of learning. |
