| 内容記述 | As we observe religious folk dances (kagura) in the western region of Japan，we realize that there are some unique Kagura in southwestern Hiroshima prefecture. The group of dances is called Junijingi and it consists of twelve traditional dances. We can see heavy concentration of it in the valley of the Yahata River in Hiroshima City. Some scholars have given reports about religious folk dances in Japan，but no scholar has described the Junijingi yet. In this article，first，the author has reported about Junijingi in the Yahata River valley，then analyzed the old texts about Arahira-mai，which is the most typical mask dance of the Junijingi. He concluded that the Junijingi in the valley of Yahata River is composed of two different types of tradition. In the lower reaches of the river，the typical dance is Ooji-mai，which was originated and passed down by the Yamada priest family. On the other hand，in the upper reaches of the river，the typical dance is Shougun-mai，but nobody knows its originator. | |||||||||||
