The GIS workshop was held in Hiroshima City on July 31, 2006, which was planned for “the Day of the Hiroshima Atomic bomb” on August 6. The workshop attendants, who were a new generation having no Atomic bomb suffering, look for signs of radiation exposure and try making a digital map. The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) workshop constituted of two parts of the morning and the afternoon session. Two groups including several primary and secondary students surveyed objects concerning the atomic bomb in the hot summer morning. In the afternoon session, GIS software was used, and photographs and information from a field notebook were plotted on a digital map. It is concluded that the aerial photographs before and after the Atomic bombing have the possibility to succeed a common background to the next generation, which is supported by the GIS. |
