| 内容記述 | This paper examines how women use different names such as the occupational name and the authentic name in the patriarchal society, Gilead in the online drama, The Handmaid’s Tale. With regard to the original novel, The Handmaid’s Tale, a critic says that handmaids are called by the occupational names to protect self and avoid danger. Compared to it, the handmaids seem to use the occupational names not only to conform to the oppressive nation but also to retain the individual identity as a mother or colleague, in the television adaptation. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the transition between the occupational name and the real names affects formation of human identity and to clarify female resistance to the national suppression by Gilead. By doing so, we are focused on unique way of female self-identification in the despotic nation by which genuine female names are stolen. | |||||||
