| 内容記述 | Angels in America: Part One: Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner premiered at a workshop in Los Angeles in May 1990, followed by Part Two: Perestroika, which opened in England in November 1993. During the period of its premiere, as well as throughout the 1980s, audiences continued to confront the trauma and existential threat posed by AIDS. American men with HIV in the 1980s faced unprecedented discrimination and social stigma associated with the disease. In the 2017 London revival of Angels in America, directed by Marianne Elliott, the oldest Bolshevik asks children,‘ How are we to proceed without Theory?’—anxiously pleading‘ words that will reorder the world（’ 2.2.1）. Multiple theories emerged during the 1970s and 1980s. This study re-examines the consciousness surrounding incurable diseases in Angels in America and explores the‘ Theory’ that humanity pursues while being blamed by the Angel for its ruin rather than its advancement. |
