| 内容記述 | In Japan, rivers are currently inhabited by tropical fish, originally introduced as exotic species. The widespread practice of keeping tropical fish in households plays a pivotal role in this phenomenon. The introduction of tropical fish to Japan dates back to the early Showa period（around the 1920s–1930s）. Initially, imported tropical fish, influenced by Western tropical fish-keeping culture, were primarily kept by the affluent, including the nobility. The culture of tropical fish-keeping became firmly established during the post-World War II period of high economic growth（around the 1950s–1970s）. This was facilitated by the increasing variety of imported tropical fish, the diversification of keeping methods, and the emergence of keeping devices that made these developments possible. As a result, this era witnessed a tropical fish boom. Concurrently, these developments also led to the creation of an environment in which anyone could easily engage in tropical fish-keeping. |
