          <dc:description>Non-compression braces show perfectly elastic-plastic restoring force characteristics without both buckling and slip behavior because of wedge-device function. Those braces possess excellent energy absorption capability and slender members can be chosen as earthquake resistant braces. When strength of column bases is weaker than the braces, it is not clear that behavior of the column bases influences the restoring force characteristics of the braces in cyclic loadings. Experimental study on cyclic loading tests of non-compression-braced frames with exposed- type column bases was carried out to clarify resistant mechanism of the column base and cyclic behavior of the braced frame. The following conclusions were obtained from the experimental results: 1) The braced frames showed bi-linear-type cyclic curves in case of brace-strength less than von Mises yield condition of anchor-bolts; 2) The braces were yielding because of reduction of shear stress of anchor-bolts caused by friction of the base-plate and the foundation in case of brace-strength larger than von Mises yield condition of anchor-bolts.</dc:description>
