<dc:description>An experiment was conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of surfaces in reciprocating motion. The test surfaces were flat plates having vertically brazed cylinders. Comparing the experimental data in reciprocating motion with those of forced convection, it was revealed that a bias Reynolds number exists, which may be due to the un-steady convection effect. The bias Reynolds number depends, within this experimental range, not on the moving speed but on the surface geometry. The heat transfer coefficients in reciprocating motion agreed well with those of forced convection using the equivalent Reynolds number, which consists of the ordinary Reynolds number and the bias Reynolds number.</dc:description>
