          <dc:description>In this paper, the characteristics of receptances of single piles have been qualitatively analized in a wide range of parameter in vertical and horizontal vibrations for floating and end bearing piles installed in surface strata. By introducing a characteristic parameter combined the stiffness ratio of pile to soil and the ratio of length to radius of the pile into the parametric study, it is seen that the vibrational characteristics of receptances agree well among the piles of the same characteristic parameter. The characteristics of receptances due to the variation of the ratio of pile length to soil thickness, the stiffness ratio of pile to soil or the ratio of length to radius of the pile, can be estimated by a characteristic wave number expressed as the number of the longitudinal or lateral wave length of the soil ranging over a effective length of the pile.</dc:description>
