          <dc:description>In his general study of foreign language curriculums，1) Clark examines in great detail the framework of three educational value systems which seem to permeate the contemporary educational process and which also seem to be reflected in recent foreign language curriculum development.2) Based on the assumption that this framework has a high general validity，this paper reviews it，relates each of the three value systems to the general English teaching situation in Japan，and investigates a future possible direction of English curriculum development at Japanese higher educational institutions.</dc:description>
