<datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">In order to search for new growth-related factors in fish, we focused on unused fish residues. When fish soluble, one of the unused fish residues, was fed to medaka, the growth of the medaka was promoted. After that, fish soluble（FS）was purified and a feeding experiment was conducted, and the growth was also promoted. To identify the growth-promoting substances, metabolome analysis was performed and three candidate substances contained in FS, terephthalic acid, glycerol, and harman, were selected. To analyze the mechanism of action of these candidate substances on growth, the candidate substances were administered to zebrafish at two doses, 1μM and 100μM. As a result, all of the candidate substances promoted growth. Real-time PCR analysis revealed that terephthalic acid, especially 1μM and 100μM, activated the secretion of digestive enzymes secreted from the small intestine, respectively. These results suggested that terephthalic acid is involved in growth promotion.</datacite:description>
