          <datacite:description descriptionType="Abstract">The results of the tests (starting torque test，pull-in torque test，pull-out torque test，and efficiency test) made on the five motors operated by the use of alternating and inverter power sources are discussed in this paper. These motors are the squirrel cage type，the solid pole type，the cylindrical solid iron (2 mm thick) type，the cylindrical solid iron (5 mm thick) type，and the cylindrical solid iron (5mm thick) and squirrel cage type as shown in chart No.1. Nos.3，4 and 5 motors have the starting and damper winding of the cylindrical solid iron which is fixed on the surface of the magnetic poles. Starting torque and damping torque of Nos.2，3 ，4 and 5 motors are produced by the interaction of the revolving magnetic field and eddycurrent in the solid iron. From the several tests made，it was found that Nos.3，4 and 5 motors showed good starting characteristics (starting torque，starting current and mechanical vibration) because of the high resistance rotor and entire distribution of the starting winding on the surface of the rotor. Therefore，these motors are suited for loads demanding large starting torque or ultra high speed drives.</datacite:description>
