In essence，the two directions are not contradictory，but in planning classroom practice，they can be opposing because the former usually involves a teacher-centered approach with explicit teaching of discrete grammatical points while the latter usually involves a learner-centered approach with implicit and holistic teaching through various communicative activities. Based on the recognition that both are important for Japanese university students，this paper presents two models in terms of goal setting， material selection，syllabus design，evaluation method，and other educational factors.
