To be sure, these are important factors, but the fact that the system has high functional capabilities doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the system is truly user-friendly. In the case of Hiroshima city, the midtown area is smaller than those of big cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, and so it is likely that passengers need to spend a higher ration of time for “vertical” movement. In this sense, it seems necessary to assess the user-friendliness of a transportation system from the viewpoint of the total time passengers need to reach their destination.
